The 17 Day Diet -- Days 32-34

2/1/11

Today we had quite a snowstorm and the morning was spent driving Sam to preschool (terrifying!), going to Lowe's to get fire starter logs, loading up the wood bin on the front porch (thanks to my neighbor Joe for helping me move all that wood), picking Sam back up, and then hunkering down for the rest of the day. We're due to have a major storm lasting all day tomorrow, and it's going to be crazy. On another note, I can't wait for cycle 3 to get here (on the 4th) because I feel really limited (and very, very bored) eating the cycle 1 diet on alternate days. I'm looking forward to having more food choices, although I think eating the natural starches make me hungrier. I struggled all afternoon after having the rice for lunch. Mental note: rice isn't filling the same way potatoes/beans/yams, etc. have been. I guess that's an important observation to make for future reference.

Breakfast
hot water w/lemon
sugar free oatmeal
light yogurt
Snack
apple
Lunch
hamburger w/ salsa
1/2 C rice
Snack
light yogurt
sliced tomatoes w/ balsamic vinegarette dressing
Dinner
chicken curry masala (I'm on a major indian food kick at the moment)
*peas-- technically I'm not supposed to have peas for another 3 days because they're starchy, but I had some anyway tonight. They're peas, for crying out loud. Not chocolate drops.

2/2/11

Yet another major snow dumping. We woke up to another half a foot at least. School was cancelled and so was Tom's work. Tom spent hours this morning digging us out. It's days like today that you (or at least I) really have zero desire to eat light yogurt and cold tomatoes. I made french toast for the guys this morning and would've loved something warm and heavy in my stomach (damn you cycle 1 days--I can't even eat oatmeal!) And for lunch, I would've totally been all over something heavy and filling--chicken parmesan or split pea soup or a nice pasta-y, cheesy casserole. Definetely not vegetables. The fact that my insides feel neither warm nor full makes me very grumpy when I'm this cold. Happily this is my very last cycle 1 day for quite some time. Not sure yet what I'll do when cycle 3 is over. You can choose whether to return to cycle 1 and go though the first 3 cycles again (not likely!), return to cycle 2, then 3 (more likely), or just stay on cycle 3 until you reach your goal weight. I guess a lot depends on how impatient I get.

Breakfast
hot water w/lemon
light yogurt
2 hard boiled eggs
Lunch
roasted brussels sprouts
light yogurt
tomatoes w/balsamic vinegarette dressing
Dinner
chicken w/ marinara sauce
roasted brussels sprouts
baby carrots

2/3/11

The needle on the scale is sitting at 170, teasing me. I regained a couple of ounces and lost a little ground on my 169.8 weight from earlier this week. But it's my own fault. I haven't been drinking enough water, I haven't been going to the gym regularly, and I ate foods I wasn't supposed to. So now I'm suffering the consequences. In my own defense, I've been a little consumed with all things snow related. This is what my house looks like at the moment:

You know the snow is too deep when your dog can see over your minivan.

I'm from NC and I'm just not emotionally equipped to go brave the elements to get to the gym. To me, it seems suicidal. So if it's snowing and the roads aren't plowed, I don't venture out. We got about a foot of snow within 36 hours this week. It was nuts. And more snow is coming. So I sort of checked out of my diet/exercise program and went into snow mode. But it's time to get over it and get a move on. April (and our cruise to Bermuda) is just around the corner!

Breakfast
light yogurt
oatmeal
Snack
apple
Lunch
ground beef w/ black beans
salsa
sour cream
*some nasty healthy choice steamer chicken sweet potato meal
carrots and Otria yogurt dip
Snack
light yogurt
strawberries
Dinner
broiled pork chops
broccoli

*I thought I had some ground beef w/ black beans in the freezer I could quickly heat up, but I was wrong. And I was starving, so I had to scrounge up something fast. Now I'm hungry and grumpy because what I ended up eating was neither tasty, nor filling. Live and learn...
