The 17 Day Diet -- Days 8-10

1/8/10

I went to Sam's Club last night (in a snow storm, no less) because I wanted to get some Salmon and Tilapia in bulk. I was quite upset by the selection there. First of all, most of their fish was farm raised (and Dr. Moreno suggests against farm-raised fish because they are given antiobiotics). That I could possibly live with, but the kicker for me was that the fish was produced in China. Does everything have to come from China now? I was flabbergasted that even the Atlantic Cod caimd to be wild caught but was a product of China. Not real sure how that's possible. I ended up getting the ultra-expensive, wild-caught, made-in-America sockeye.

I had a funny moment yesterday while I was washing dishes. I put my hand on my waist and had one of those sudden thoughts like "Oh, God! Who did I just touch?" My waist was so much taunter, I didn't recognize it at first! LOL Glad to feel some of the changes of the diet, because the scale isn't making the grand sweeping gestures I'd like it to.

We had a fun day today. Got a lot of snow and took the boys sledding with some friends. Then they invited us back to their place for an impromptu play date. On the way there, we stopped by our house to get out of our wet clothes, and since I wasn't going to be able to endulge in cocoa or bagels with them, I made myself a strawberry kefir smoothie to take with me. I'm liking the portability of my blend-it-and-go smoothie maker more and more. My goal for this week is to get more water in. I bought a 32 oz jug to carry around so I can  gauge how much I've had, as well as a travel thermos for my tea. I've been doing a lot of grabbing-food-as-I-run out-the-door lately, and being able to bring drinks with me is going to make life that much easier.

The scale hasn't moved in a day or two and I'm feeling a little down about it. I like to see steady progress and I hate it when it seems like I've lost momentum. I keep trying to tell myself that the scale only reflects part of what is going on in my body, and there are many more good things at play inside me that I can't see. And I keep reminding myself that this is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. A marathon, not a sprint. Blah blah blah. But pep talks only go so far. I'm powering through the gloomies today--trying to be proactive and get my coupons organized to reflect our new way of eating. It certainly cut down on my clipping time when I limited my coupons to foods that are whole, clean, and/or organic (with the occassional gotta-have-it treat for Tom and the boys thrown in--like Jello--that's our finish-your-dinner bribe around here).

After feeling a little depressed about my weight slow down yesterday, I re-weighed myself first thing this morning and have lost another 2.5 lbs. I've lost about 7.5 lbs now. That's exciting. Hopefully by the end of 14 days it'll be closer to 10 lbs. I just put an order in for 6 boxes of girl scout cookies, and the ones Tom and the boys don't scarf down in the first five minutes, I'm going to freeze and use as an incentive to reach my goal weight. Knowing I'll be allowed to have some freebie weekend meals once I've reached my goals makes all the self deprevation now worth it.

Breakfast
2 hard boiled eggs
kefir smoothie w/ strawberries and sugar free cherry preserves
Post-Workout Snack
turkey lunch meat
Lunch
chicken and vegetable soup
Afternoon Snack
plain yogurt w/ sugar free cherry preserves
apple
Dinner
baked chicken
roasted brussels sprouts
carrots

  1. you're doing great. the best way to lose weight is a little at a time. 10 pounds is a lot to lose in 14 days. the weight the tends to stay of the weight that's lost over a longer time period. and you're right about the lifestyle change...i'm definitely need to curb my sweet tooth. keep up the good work!
