The 17 Day Diet -- Days 20-22

1/20/11

I weighed myself on the wii this morning and I've lost a whopping 0.4 lbs in three days. Boo. When I complained to Tom, he got all over my case because I "haven't followed the diet strictly" which is mostly BS. Yes, I did have a little cheese (and by a little, I literally mean a sprinkle) of cheese at Chipotle, I have been eating low fat (and not fat free) mozzarella on my caprese salads (a sliver the size of my finger, cut up into tiny pieces), my "sugar free" preserves aren't sugar free (they're lightly sweetened with fruit juice) and the other day I had some extra black beans, and after 2pm at that. But you know what? I've also been working my tail off at the gym--doing double workouts sometimes--and I don't think a few extra calories (a dozen or so per day) are going to ruin the benefits of this diet. And I also know exactly when I haven't followed the diet strictly, which means I'm not mindlessly eating everything in the kitchen, and that's a step up from where I was a mere three weeks ago. I'm hoping that this momentary stall in weight loss is another situation where my body is regrouping and finding another fat source to attack--not that it should have any trouble finding fat. In the meantime, I did 20 minutes of running with the wii today. I've never run that long before and I'm excited that I was able to do it. On a more depressing note, my stuffed cabbage (that I had such high hopes for) was gross. That's what I get for modifying recipes...

Snack

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've grown to love my body sculpting class. I was very resistant to doing any kind of weight lifting (bor-ing!), but I can't argue with what it's doing for my body. I find it easier and easier to run the more weights I lift, and the pain afterwards is substantially less. Weight lifting isn't doing bad things for my cardio endurance either. On an entirely different note, for whatever reason, today I was absolutely starving! And I've gotten to the point where I'm not enjoying cycle 1 food at all. I'd almost rather not eat than eat another chicken breast/piece of salmon/hard boiled egg. I fix it and I eat it because that's what I'm supposed to be eating, but I'm just gagging it down. I feel so depressed on cycle 1 days because it means I'm stuck eating chicken again. Or fish again. My taste buds are not onboard anymore. Sometimes I think of myself as a draft horse, pulling a heavy burden uphill. I know if I just keep plodding along through the pain (figuratively and literally), eventually I'll get to where I'm going and will be put out of my misery (and never have to eat another piece of chicken again if I don't want to).

Breakfast
hot water w/lemons
2 hard boiled eggs
plain yogurt w/strawberries and cherry preserves
green tea w/Truvia
Lunch
ground chicken w/taco seasoning w/ lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and feta
green tea w/ Truvia
Dinner
salmon
brussels sprouts
green tea w/Truvia

This morning the wii said I dropped another 0.2 lbs. I'm underwhelmed. I need to drink more water. That's probably the missing piece, since you don't burn fat efficiently when you're not well hydrated. I have yet to drink 64 oz of water in one day. 48 oz is the most I've managed. Anyway, today a nearby gym was having an open house and offering sample classes, so my neighbor and I tried spinning for the first time. Boy, it took me back to cycling in Holland--when I rode 12 km to school and back every day and was in phenominal shape. I wish I had kept it up over the years. The Y offers spinning classes, so maybe I'll add that to my weekly repetoire. It was fun.

Breakfast
hot water w/lemon
baked yam w/ margarine and cinnamon
plain yogurt w/ cherry preserves
Lunch
hamburger w/ lettuce & tomato
baked potato
apple
Snack
kefir smoothie w/ strawberries and cherry preserves
Dinner
steak salad @ Moe's w/out beans and dressing on the side
