Appalachian Mountain Talk

Yesterday, a friend said she could hear my "southern" accent and we got into a conversation about how people from the Western NC mountains sound (which, incidentally, isn't "southern" but "mountain"). I found this and wanted to share it with anyone unfamiliar with the Appalachians. This is the speech I grew up around and this is the speech I'm going to try to duplicate in my novel.

  1. these folks sound an awful lot like my southern family, both sides.

    we ain'ta tawkin' we's sangin!

of course i don't sound like this at all, just a few hints around the edges, but certain uncles and cousins and aunts, wooheee!

I love your comments! They make my day.
