Yesterday, a friend said she could hear my "southern" accent and we got into a conversation about how people from the Western NC mountains sound (which, incidentally, isn't "southern" but "mountain"). I found this and wanted to share it with anyone unfamiliar with the Appalachians. This is the speech I grew up around and this is the speech I'm going to try to duplicate in my novel.
these folks sound an awful lot like my southern family, both sides.
