John is still cooking

I've had several people tell me they read my update from yesterday and are curious how things went. John had an absolutely beautiful NST with not a blip of a problem for only the second time since all these tests began. Ironically, it was during a visit with the other, female, doctor... I wonder if he's already trying to impress the ladies? He certainly doesn't care a thing about impressing any of the male doctors on staff...they don't accelerate his heartrate at all. :-P

Of course, the doctor looked at my chart and was like, "So, why are you having an elective c-section?" Everyone always asks. I need to come up with a succinct response--something that conveys that elective is not the word I'd use in this situation. It implies somehow that I had a choice in the matter, and I don't feel like I did.

Anyway, I was having regular contractions every 5-7 minutes, but they're not "real" contractions until they're painful. Considering the fact that I had a pre-op bikini wax yesterday that actually bled, all things are relative. Obviously, I didn't go to the hospital and I'm just sitting around waiting for Tuesday to get here.

I know some of you are also anxiously awaiting an update about what I bought with my poetry prize winnings... Today I bought a bunch of MP3s off of Amazon. You will recognize a lot of them from tv commercials. It's a sad state of affairs when that's the only way I'm exposed to new music. On the other hand, I used to not pay any attention to the music on commercials, but since Sam does, and comes and dances in front of the tv when his favorites are on, I've started to pay attention. The boy has good taste.

Here are my downloads:

1) Sara Bareilles - Love Song

Do not ask me why, but I cannot get enough of this song. Everytime I hear it, it makes me want to go write something. Plus I love the story she sings about. I've been there.

2) Colbie Callait - Bubbly

This song has been on the radio since around the time I found out I was pregnant, so I've always associated it with John, even before I knew he was a he. I made a mix CD for Sam of songs that were important to me while I was pregnant with him, so this one is going on the CD I'm going to make for John.

3)Yael Naim - New Soul

This was one of those songs Sam liked from tv, and once I paid attention, really loved the lyrics. This is another song for John's CD.

4) Sarah McLachlan - Blackbird

When Carly Smithson sang this song on American Idol I was totally blown away. I'd never heard it before and loved the lyrics. Again, this one seemed appropriate for John--especially in light of the fact that the ultrasound technician seems to think he'll have dark hair. I feel a nickname coming on. :-P

5) Country Dance Kings - My Wish

I liked this version better than the one by Rascal Flatts. Love the lyrics. It perfectly conveys how I want my boys to live their lives.

6) Feist - My Moon My Man

I'm sure I heard this on tv for the first time and it's gotten stuck in my head. Plus, the lyrics are quirky and I like that in a song.

7) Ben Lee - We're All In This Together

This is one of Sam's favorites. No matter what he's doing, when this song comes on, he runs to the tv and does the "baby hop".
