A Trip to the Maternal/Fetal Specialist

On Wednesday, I finally got in for a diagnostic ultrasound. I'd been having some unusual abdomenal pain and my doctor wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious. I go in for my ultrasound and they discover that my level of amniotic fluid is a little on the high side. Then, based on the NST, it looked like John might be in some distress. They sent me on to the maternal/fetal specialist to rule out atnasia (a blockage somewhere in John's gastrointestinal tract).

Luckily, John and I are both fine. My fluid levels are high, but not dangerously so, and it poses no risk to mine or John's health. That was a relief.

On the bright side, we got another 3D/4D ultrasound of John for our trouble. I can't believe how much older he looks just three weeks later. The ultrasound technician was also absolutely amazed that she was able to see a thick head of hair on his head. She said normally, it is impossible to see hair on an ultrasound, that ordinarily, the only hair they ever see is on Asian babies. She said she thinks that John must have really dark hair too because light hair almost never shows up on ultrasound.

I know it's a little thing to be excited about, but now I'm looking forward to meeting him all the more!
